Mr. Ling is an associate of Auric Goldfinger (q.v.), who helps work on Goldfinger’s car and provides several soldiers for his masterpiece criminal operation, "Grand Slam.”

However, this makes him none the less expendable at the climax of the movie; Goldfinger does not hesitate to shoot him with his golden revolver (the ORIGINAL golden gun in a Bond film) to effectively complete his image of an American officer when Operation Grand Slam goes wrong and he needs to create an escape plan.
