Krilencu is a Bulgarian working for SMERSH. Wrongly believing that the British secret service was responsible for the death of one of their agents, SMERSH order Krilencu to kill Kerim Bey, the local British agent in Turkey.

After a couple of failed attempts; one at Kerim's house and the other at a gypsy camp Kerim and Bond were visiting, the agents decide to set a trap for Krilencu at his safe house.

With Kerim watching Krilencu's window, Bond heads off and tries to flush him out, by knocking on his front door. Sure enough, the window Kerim is watching is in fact Krilencu's escape route, and as he begins climbing down the rope from his window, Kerim uses Bond's sniper rifle to gun down Krilencu.
