After fleeing from a losing fight with vampire Jerry Dandridge, so-called "vampire-killer" Peter Vincent, flees to main protagonist, Charlie Brewster's house in hopes of finding a telephone, only to find that the phone line has been cut. He screams out for Mrs. Brewster, to inform her of this fact, only to find a friend of Brewster's, "Evil" Ed Thompson, is in the house, and has turned into a vampire, complete with protruding fangs and a bloody Cross-mark in his forehead (received earlier when Vincent got a lucky hit in with a crucifix).
Ed menacingly comes close to Vincent who darts down the hallway. Ed turns into a wolf and pursues him, but luckily for Vincent, when Ed pounces, he misses and crashes into the railings on the stairs, causing them to splinter and he falls from the banister to the floor with a wooden railing-support impaled into him.
Still a wolf, Ed barely manages to crawl his way under the stairway, where he slowly turns from wolf into a half-wolf (in a scene that rivals An American Werewolf in London’s transformation) to vampire, back to human. As he lies dying, the blistered cross-burn vanishes into nothing while Peter is forced to watch the gruesome process.
However, in a strange and perhaps not entirely canonical scene at the end, red eyes are seen in the main vampire's home, while Charlie Brewster makes love to Amy Peterson. "HA-HAAA! You're so COOL Brewster!" shouts Ed's voice.
I hope I don't make Eichholtz angry when I say...
Peter Vincent: Mrs. Brewster. My God, the phone lines have been cut.
Evil Ed: I know, I DID IT!
Peter Vincent: Where is Charley's mother?
Evil Ed: Oh, well, apparently, she's working nights. BUT!... she left a note. Mmmmmm mmm! His dinner... is in the oven!
A screenshot of a female vampire from this movie has been used in 2 Prank Flashes...
It is worthwhile to note that just before Vincent leaves, he takes his stake with him, providing more insight as to why Evil comes back. You see, I just got the DVD, usually different from the TV version, and I also plan to re-submit Billy Cole's death in more detail. (HEY! how come my other Fright Night deaths aren't up yet!? AARGH!!)
Animal should probably be removed from this death, since he wasn't killed BY an animal. He just changed INTO one to attack Peter Vincent.
And could you please think of revising the eath with what I said before too?
This was the saddest and most disturbing part of the film. I cry everytime I see it. But I am also baffled as to how they achived this scene. I know the dying wolf was pulled by strings, but how did they do that effect with the hand???
Onto another subject....how on earth did they achieve the Billy Cole death scene?!?!?! And how did they manage to get that pencil into Jerry's hand???
They probably did the "arrow through the head" thing with the pencil through the hand, having the two halves connected by a ring around his hand, and using a prosthetic when it was taken out. Billy Cole (One of my favorites!) I believe was probably done with prosthetics when he was still part-human (squibs when he was shot), and simply a model for the major melting.
Now, as for Evil Ed's hand, that was obviously melting wax and stuff, reversed.
