Henry Frankenstein has succeeded in bringing the dead to life, but his creation has a bit of a temper and, after one too many provocations, it kills Henry's assistant Fritz (q.v.). Henry's mentor, Dr. Waldman, promises to painlessly destroy the Monster while Henry, neglecting his fatherly duties, goes off to marry his fiancée Elizabeth.

Waldman develops a severe case of stupidity at this point though and, instead of destroying the Monster, he decides to examine the sedated creature first. Despite his noting that the Monster has become resistant to sedatives, Waldman leans over to listen to the Monster's heartbeat. The result is hardly surprising - the Monster's eyes open and he grabs the old man by the neck. Slowly getting up off the examination table, the Monster then strangles Waldman to death before escaping.
