Dan Gallagher is guilty of letting his trouser snake wander and gets his comeuppance big time, as Alex Forrest, the person he has the affair with, is psychotic. Clearly he must have been dynamite between the sheets, because after only one weekend together, Alex is totally infatuated with Dan.

At first, this is only a mild irritation as she pesters his office with phone calls asking to meet up. Dan has moved on from this “relationship” and is not interested in pursuing it any further, much to her dismay. Things soon start turning a bit more sinister though, when she starts calling his house phone and she even turns up there to meet his wife, under the pretence of being a buyer for the family home (their house is up for sale). She also claims by this point that she is pregnant with Dan’s child, something that we are not sure of the veracity of.

Dan realises that he has got to stop this escalating any further, as there is a risk his wife will find out what he has done, and so he goes to Alex’s apartment to state, in no uncertain terms, that this has got to end.  A huge argument ensues, where Alex states “I am not going to be ignored Dan”.

After this, things start turning violent. Alex cannot stand the fact that Dan has a happy home life, and so she sets about destroying it, by killing and boiling the pet bunny of Dan’s daughter, in what is now one of the most iconic scenes in Hollywood film history. By this point Dan realises that this woman is not going to stop (a bit like the Terminator), and so confesses his affair to his wife, Beth.

After a suitable period of admonishment, Beth forgives him, and it soon becomes clear in Alex’s deranged mind that the only way she and Dan can be together is if his wife was no longer in the picture. So, while Beth is getting ready for her bath, Alex jumps out from behind the shower curtain, armed with a kitchen knife and begins stabbing her. Dan hears the screams and rushes to the bathroom and tackles Alex, culminating in throwing her into the bath, submerging her and holding her down. Alex thrashes about for dear life, but Dan’s strength is too much and she drowns.

Exhausted, Dan releases her and sits down in the bathroom, thinking through the ramifications of what he has done, when suddenly Alex busts out of the water with a scream and lunges for him. Dan is caught by surprise, and is completely defenceless but he is saved by a gunshot blasting Alex in the chest, which kills her and sends her sinking back down into the bath. The camera pans across to show who the shooter is, and we see it is Beth at the door with a smoking gun in her hand, saving her husband.

Let this be a cautionary tale about the consequences of a married man getting some rumpy-pumpy from anyone other than your wife!
