Having killed Brandt (q.v.), Preston now has the chance to fight against Father. Despite being a bit of a porker, Father is actually rather agile, and grabbing a gun from his table, prepares to kill Preston.
The audience then has to watch a nicely choreographed, but utterly ridiculous bit of close quarters "gun kata". The end result is that Preston disarms Father, who begs for his life.

Just to clarify, Father orders a small army to kill Preston. When they fail, he orders Brandt to kill him, and when he fails Father tries to kill Preston himself. And he expects Preston to spare him?? Obviously that was not going to happen, and Father could hardly be surprised when Preston shoots him in the chest.

father was shot in the chest, wasn't he?
I do believe so!
I always thought he was shot between the eyes. Having quickly checked on my DVD you are indeed right *blush* erm - well spotted, i was did that on purpose to see if people were awake

Actually, that's not Sean Pertwee, as "Father" is a recorded image. The actor in question is Christian Kahrmann
Dear me, that was a schoolboy error on my part, of course that is not pertwee - another good spot Jaywolf!!! it has been changed.
What? No! That's Angus MacFadyen, latterly of Saw III fame.
Isn't this character's name DuPont?
Isn't this character's name DuPont?
Yes, but he was the voice of Father and he is not a porker!!!!
Well even if he's the voice of Father he wasn't Father himself, at least not officially.
Um ... The death talked about here is that of Dupont (played by Angus McFadyen). Dupont masquerades as Father, who is really nothing but a screen image and voice (those done by Jon Pertwee.) Christian Kahrmann plays another character entirely. You can check this at the fansite run by a score of die-hard EQ buffs:

Is he made of sand? Why does he explode sand when he's shot?
That's just for "effect" of the bullet impact, I believe.
