Early on, we see Heinrich, Marco and Uli plant explosives under the roof structure for the purpose of revealing a textbook Hollywood-esque explosion much later in the film.

John has managed to alert the police but instead of the convoy he was hoping to be getting, the LAPD only ordered one squad car to check the situation. Furthermore, the LAPD are initially thinking it's a phoney call made by a rowdy man full of Christmas cheer.

The cop, Sgt. Powell has already been inside and found nothing unusual and John can see he is making his way back to his squad car. John, in desperation and frustration, gets an executive chair and hammers away at a window. The window, unfortunately, doesn't break initially but it's enough to alert a terrorist a floor above who alerts Heinrich and his friend Marco.

Marco, eager to let fly at John sprints off while Heinrich, frustrated, finds a way down and for some strange reason takes the bag of detonators and explosives with him.

Heinrich eventually catches up and finds Marco in a tough spot. Seeing an avenue to shoot our angry hero, he orders Marco to 'get down' while he readies a shot. Unfortunately for him, He is standing right where Marco was and John, already aimed and ready relieves his frustration by shooting Heinrich twice in the chest and effectively putting an end to our bad guys' explosive criminal career.
