This guard has the honour (if you can call it that) of being the first ever death in the whole Die Hard series. He's the guard in the lobby who is watching the security monitors outside of Nakatomi Plaza.  This building is almost completely deserted as today is Christmas Eve, but there is a celebration party going on the upper floors, for all the high-powered executives.  A ruthless international thief called Hans Gruber is about to rudely gatecrash this party and force the Chief Executive to help him open the plaza's security vault.

As the unfortunate guard curiously watches a Pacific Courier truck containing many of the heavily armed terrorists arriving in the parking lot, another car containing Karl and Theo pulls up outside.

Going through the spinning doors, Theo talks loudly and rather over-eagerly about basketball (which is now horrifically dated): "So Kareem rebounds, right? Feeds Worthy on the break, over to A.C., to Magic and then back to Worthy, right!?" Karl, meanwhile, goes over to the guard and shoots him in the head (he is obviously not a fan of American sports).

"Boom! Two points!" finishes Theo, before climbing the desk and kicking back the deceased guard in his chair. He pulls out a radio from his pocket: "We're in." Hans' (extremely) hostile takeover has begun...
