Ivan is the second Durant henchman impersonated by Darkman, in an attempt to poison Durant's pain medication, although Darkman's plan is foiled by the real Ivan's appearance and Durant's observation that Ivan never carries his pills, Eddie does. Ivan takes serious offence at Darkman impersonating him, snarling, "Only I am allowed to wear my face!"

A short time after this, Darkman, after knocking out Roy and killing Eddie, tackles Ivan wearing another Ivan mask (or possibly the same one) and an outfit identical to Ivan's, which is strange considering mere moments ago he was wearing clothes exactly like Roy's and it's impossible that Darkman could have known what Durant's minions would be wearing that night. However, enough nitpicking!

Durant, who points one of Dr. Hathaway’s laser guns at them and instructs them both to approach, interrupts their struggle. The two men comply with Durant’s order, and Durant starts a Solomon-like quest to determine which one is Darkman. However, Durant’s method of determining is a little bit more brutal than the Old Testament; knowing that Ivan stepped on a landmine some years back and had a metal hip put in, he can work out which is which by shooting one of them (it does not really matter which). Both Ivans begin desperately claiming to be the real Ivan, until Durant finally aims the laser at the one on his left and fires, hitting him in the stomach.

This immediately signals to the audience who the real Ivan is, as Ivan dies a very painful-looking demise as he combusts and bursts into little more than a flaming skeleton, with his metal hip clanging to the floor at Durant's feet. Now knowing precisely where Darkman is, Durant quips, "Hip... hip... hooray."
