Rennes "The Wren" is a criminal escape artist trapped with five others inside a fatal, enigmatic maze of cube rooms. Early in the movie, he suggests to the group that the true challenge of this is to survive their own conflicts and differences. Rennes also suggests that it would make sense to throw a boot into each room to test it for traps.

He is certainly a cautious fellow, but this caution is to no avail when he throws a boot into one particular room. As he sticks his face inside, the room has some form of heat sensor in it, and the increase in temperature triggers a device and some highly corrosive acid shoots into his face, violently killing him.
