As Ray tries desperate to get the police to get Frank and his goons out his hands, they pick up a pair of hikers, Sandra and Lochlan, the latter of which is particularly bemused at the extreme possibility of death. The pair have come to rekindle their relationship, although it doesn't appear to be working, as Sandra wishes they went to San Francisco instead.

The group reach a moraine, which are rocks brought down during the Ice Age. They now have to cross what appears to be a very rickety-looking wooden bridge, complete with 'Danger! Cross at your own risk!' sign.

They cross the first bridge. At the end of it, Ray decides that he should destroy the bridge so their pursuers will be slowed down. He asks Lochlan for help, but he refuses at first, claiming that he could lose his stockbroking licence for destroying government property. He relents, however, when Sandra tells him to stop being "such an ass". They destroy the bridge. His attitude and profession of choice suggests we are to be relieved of this character shortly.

They see a police helicopter in the sky and start waving towards it. Unknown to them, it's actually Frank's gang and they're coming to kill everyone except Frank. Lochlan ends up being in charge of the gun being used to keep Frank under control.
"Get the guy with the gun," orders Turner to Davis.

It should be mentioned that Davis is a mole sent by the U.S. government to take out Frank if anything goes wrong and cover up the whole operation, which it has. He uses his rifle to aim at Frank.
"Goodbye, old man," Davis sneers.
Suddenly, the helicopter jolts and shot fires... into Lochlan, ironically hitting the ordered target. Lochlan collapses and dies instantly, while Royko informs a rather frustrated Davis that was due to the updraught.
