Dr. Kevin Harrison is the head of Harrison Industries, a manufacturer of government weapons and aircraft. He has also made shady deals with foreign powers for his nuclear weapons, all of which is detailed in documents that his girlfriend Maggie (who happens to be a news reporter) is carrying on an American airport's newly acquired Concorde, which is currently on its goodwill flight to Moscow.
Harrison tries several times to kill his girlfriend, in an attempt to quash the story: he tries a guided missile, an F-16 armed with heat seeking missiles, and an act of sabotage that results in, what Joe Patroni calls it, "explosive decompression." Maggie, however, manages to make it through all this alive, and as she delivers her report on Harrison Industries' arms sales, we get a scene shot through the point of view of Harrison on his private plane, watching the report. He then lifts up a revolver to his head and fires, ending his life.
Note from Mouseburger: There is an alternative death scene to this in the TV release of the film which added 20 minutes of exta footage to the film - although why someone bothered adding stuffing to this particulr turkey is a mystery;)
Alternative death sequence from IMDB
Often TV versions add footage so they can pad out the running time, meaning more time for ad breaks (as if there aren't enough already - the U.S. seem to go to break every 5 minutes!) It can also replace footage that the version cuts out.
