The horn retrieved and Conan and company supposedly taken care of, Bombatta returns to Shadizar with Jehnna, where Queen Taramis begins the ritual to resurrect Dagoth, ably assisted by her grand vizier, an elderly gentleman in a ridiculous-looking bat-winged helmet.

After Jehnna, pacified with a mickey slipped into her wine by her aunt, places the horn in the forehead of Dagoth's statue and the stone figure begins to come alive, the grand vizier seizes up a ceremonial dagger (shaped like Dagoth, no less) and prepares to sacrifice the princess to the awakening god.

Unfortunately for our villains, Conan and his friends have snuck into the palace. Whilst Conan dukes it with Bombatta, Akiro, Zula and Malak race to the throne room and are told by Conan, "Save the girl!"

The gang arrives on a balcony overlooking the ritual, and Zula, taking aim with her trusty spear, flings it at the vizier, who had been poised to slash Jehnna's throat.

The vizier is well and truly impaled by the projectile (that's some arm Zula's got!), which promptly causes all hell to break loose. Almost literally, too, where Dagoth is concerned.

My copy of the film's novelization came in the mail today, and in it, the vizier is identified as Xantares. This name is never mentioned in the film dialog nor the credits, but I just thought it worth mentioning as interesting trivia.

Also where is "Impaled?" Maybe I forgot to add it, but the vizier is definitely completely impaled by Zula's spear.
