Travers is chasing, and trying to shoot Walker in the hills after he has realized that Walker has taken the money. Walker jumps down from a hill and hides. Travers is hot on his tail though and notices Walker’s blood tracks in the snow and so follows them.

He comes to the wooden walking passage that leads to the cave in the mountain wall. Travers believes that Walker is in cave and starts tentatively walking to it along the passage. However, it is a ruse by Walker, who is hiding under the passage. Suddenly he pushes his hands through the wood and grasps Travers by the legs pulling him down. This action though causes Walker to drop through the ice and fall into the freezing water.

Travers drops on the ice but it is thick enough to withstand his considerable weight on it. He sees Walker under the ice and points at him with his gun, and with a triumphant look he smiles and shouts "I won, Walker!" even though it is highly unlikely that Walker coul hear this, or even read his lips.

At the very moment, Walker raises his bolt gun and shoots Travers through the ice. This does two things: the bolts penetrate Travers body, doing untold internal damage and they also shatter the ice that Travers was standing on, causing him to fall in to the water where the current drags him under the ice. He is dead by this point though, and we are given a momentary glimpse of his body heading down stream under the ice to confirm it for ourselves.

Interestingly, from what I've read, originally Travers was supposed to get shot by Hal. In the original version, Gabe shoots Travers through the ice with the bolt gun but then Hal arrives with Delmar's shotgun and shoots Travers. For whatever reasons, though, they changed it; they just reused the shot of Gabe firing the bolt gun, and when Travers is reeling from being hit, he's reeling from being shot with a shotgun. This explains why Hal appears to be lowering the weapon as he runs up.

Correct, Koosh. It was one of the many cuts the MPAA made to make the film an 'R'. Another trims include slow-mo shootings and Kynette's impaling, which is made even more prolonged.

Shouldn't this be Baddy(major) as Travers was the one who arranged to have the money transfered and also played a major role in other ways?
Comment 4 by 'Kooshmeister' (reply to this comment)
I guess. He's at least as major a villain as Qualen.

The original death of Travers where Hal shoots him with the shotgun is NOT cut to obtain an R rating. From what ive heard Renny Harlin And Sylvester Stallone liked to have a more ''slick'' death scene. Still this is my fav death in the movie next to Delmar's death:headchop:
