Brett, along with his friend Evan, are the two well-meaning and friendly extreme sports enthusiasts who are friends with Gabe Walker and Hal Tucker. While spending a night out in the woods with the intention of getting up early to go parachuting off of high cliffs in the mountains, Brett and Evan inadvertently stumble across Eric Qualen (q.v.) and his gang, who are forcing Hal to lead them to the next case of lost money from the treasury plane.

The two teenagers do not know this though, and assume Hal is acting as a guide for a bunch of hikers. Hal's efforts to tell them otherwise are in vain however, and as the two teens turn to flee, Kynette, one of Qualen's gang members, draws a machine gun and opens fire.

Evan manages to put some distance between himself and the killers, with Kynette and Travers chasing after him, but Brett is not so lucky and is shot multiple times in the back before he collapses face-down in the snow, dead.

Hal, disgusted and horrified, calls Qualen a "murdering fuck," and earns a pistol-whipping from Qualen's right-hand woman Krystal. "Sue me," the villain retorts matter-of-factly. With regards to the fact he just allowed his minions to shoot and kill an innocent teenager, Qualen harps, "Kill a few people and they call you a murderer. Kill a million, and you become a conqueror."
