This loathesome creature is a small troll that appears in the third and final segment of the film, entitled "The General." He lives in the wall of Amanda's bedroom, and ventures out at night to try and suck out her breath and kill her for reasons that are never gone into. The only thing standing between the troll and its goal is Amanda's adopted pet cat, who she has named "General." General has already stopped the troll once, but because the troll killed Amanda's pet parakeet "Polly" during his first effort to get Amanda, her mother blamed General and had him sent to the animal shelter.

With such a size advantage, why doesn't the cat just bite the troll's head off?

Now it looks as though nothing can stop the evil troll from sucking out Amanda's breath, but General manages to escape from the shelter and returns to the house via the chimney for a final showdown with the monster. Though armed with a small sword, the troll seems more interested in retreating back into the wall than actually fighting General, but is prevented from doing so when, during the commotion, a book falls in front of the hole he goes in and out of, preventing him from escaping. Throwing crayons and other toys at General, the troll grabs onto the strings of some balloons and lets them carry him up and out of General's reach, or so he hopes.

Letting go of the balloons, the troll ends up on Amanda's record turntable. General, standing on a stack of books, swats at the troll with his paw, and accidentally turns on the record player. As it spins around, and begins playing "Every Breath You Take" by The Police (an odd choice for such a young girl), the troll loses his footing and falls, grabbing ahold of the peg in the center of the turntable. Amanda, who has been cheering her heroic kitty on from the sidelines, yells for General to "play it faster!"

DJ Puss lays down some sick beats

General complies, and, hilariously, as the turntable spins faster, the song also plays faster, so that, ultimately, it begins sounding like Alvin and the Chipmunks! The troll clings for dear life as he is spun around faster and faster, but he can't hold on forever, and is ultimately flung across the room... right into a handy electric fan sitting in the corner, which promptly chops him to bits.

Mr Troll can't handle Sting at 200bpm!

Having heard all the ruckus, Amanda's parents Sally Ann and Hugh burst into the room, and we get a nice shot of the troll's gooey remains jamming the fan, along with his little sword, which makes Amanda's mom and dad finally believe their daughter's story about an evil monster in the wall.

Submitter Note:
If you're wondering about the "Revenge" category, we learned in a deleted prologue that this troll had been responsible for the death of another little girl whom the cat originally lived with. So, it can therefore be construed that the cat is getting revenge on the troll, since his story arc through the film involves him trying to return to Wilington to stop him from killing another child.

Shouldn't this be changed back to "Creature"?

I don't know any more :sad2:
We have Stripe from Gremlins down as a Major Baddie though. Then again, he is unquestionably sentient - can this troll speak or anything?
Comment 3 by 'Matt' (reply to this comment)
Well, Stripe can speak - just.

"Aaaaaaaahh... Gun..."

Knowing Welker, it's probably just noises. Then again, it could be like his performance as Stripe.

The Troll's only lines in the film are "Slash cat!" repeated over and over when he's trying to stab at the cat.
Comment 5 by 'Mr. Briggs Inc.' (reply to this comment)
It seemed a bit more on the evil side to me, seeing as how it killed the bird to frame the cat and all.

Grabs added, nice job Koosh - although I would have liked to have seen the troll clutching his little sword :viking:

Heh, I'll have to get a screenshot of that, then, sometime. smiling smiley
