Another one of Treadstone's assassins, The Professor has tracked Bourne and Marie to a small house in the middle of nowhere. They are staying with an old friend of Marie's, called Eamon. In the morning, just as they are about to leave, Eamon's daughter, Claudia, alerts her father to the fact their dog is missing. Bourne quickly realizes that it's another Treadstone agent out to get him and tells everyone to "get in the basement." Eamon and his children obey. Marie notes the phone is dead and Bourne finds some shotgun shells and a shotgun to put them with. He goes outside to take care of the problem.

Outside, the Professor looms in the hills above the house, using trees as cover. Carefully concealed behind the wall of the house, Bourne shoots the gas tank, causing a huge explosion. This means he can now get past without being shot, thanks to the large black smoke obscuring The Professor's sniper scope. The Professor manages to catch a glimpse of him before he enters the trees.

Bourne then enters the woodland, running as quickly as possible. The Professor briefly spots Bourne in an open area and fires a few shots, which miss. The Professor takes his things and moves to a different area.

They both rush to a field filled with long grass. Admittedly, this isn't what I'd call the best of areas for The Professor to hide in - just as he can be hidden behind the grass, so can his target if he sneaks up on him. Bourne wisely decides not to enter the field, knowing it's a trap, and shoots a shot into the air, scaring the birds in the field. This throws off and distracts The Professor. Bourne rushes around the trees surrounding the field. The Professor gives up his position because the birds are too distracting and pulls a small gun out of his bag.

Bourne, reloading and still lurking in the trees, spots The Professor amongst the grass. He runs over into the field. Bourne fires a shot into The Professor's arm from a distance. The Professor falls and drops his weapon. As Bourne approaches and reloads again, The Professor crawls towards his fallen weapon. Grabbing the weapon with his unharmed hand, he gets up, only to be shot a second later in the chest, sending him to ground.

"No!" cries The Professor in pain, hands covered in blood.
Bourne looms over him with the shotgun: "Where is it? Where's the weapon?"
The Professor doesn't answer, but Bourne picks it up from behind him. Bourne kneels down and questions further: "Who else is out here? Who else? How many you got with you? I'm not going to ask you again."
"I work alone," answers The Professor. "Like you. We always work alone."
"What do you mean?" a confused Bourne asks.
"Who are you?" ponders The Professor. "Rome? Paris? Treadstone, both of us."
"Treadstone?" says Bourne.
"Which one?" The Professor asks.
"Paris," Bourne answers. "I live in Paris."
"Do you get the headaches?" questions The Professor.
"Yeah," Bourne responds.
"I get such bad headaches," smiles The Professor. "You know at night when you're driving a car? I don't know, something to do with the headlights."
"What is Treadstone?" presses Bourne.
"Treadstone said pills," The Professor says, pained. "They said go to Paris."
"Is Treadstone in Paris?" asks Bourne.
The Professor, squirming in pain, looks up at Bourne, right in his eyes: "Look at this. Look at what they made you give."
The Professor winces in pain as it becomes too much, falling onto his back and dies, in a strangely human moment for the normally faceless Treadstone assassins.

Great writeup, and this death was very moving and good. It was pretty much the only thing I liked about the movie. smiling smiley
