Out of the assassins sent to kill Jason Bourne, Castel is the agent hiding in Rome. When Bourne visits his apartment in Paris, Bourne senses there's something very wrong - in particular, the large window at the end of the hallway. He walks slowly towards it.
"What is it?" asks Marie. "Something wrong?"
Just as Bourne turns back to answer, Castel swings through the window, machine gun firing away. I'm not sure if this is a really subtle way to kill someone, but there you go. Bourne tackles him, causing bullets to fly into the ceiling, and they struggle. Bourne holds up Castel's gun (which fires more shots into the ceiling), smacks Castel in the face, before smacking Castel's arm, disarming him.

Castel gets Bourne in a headlock and tries to raise him from the ground, but Bourne powers out of it with a comboination of punches, kicks and knees. However, one well-placed kick by Castel soon sends Bourne flying down the hallway. As Marie watches, Castel moves down the hallway and the fight continues. The pair are evenly matched, blocking and exchanging blows, but Bourne appears to be on the winning side and knocks Castel down to the floor. Castel seems to figure this too, pulling out a small knife. More fighting ensues, with Bourne blocking a stab attempt.

The fight soon moves into the living room. Bourne gets Castel in an armlock and tries to force the blade from Castel's hand. Castel reverses, sending Bourne to the floor. Castel moves forward, but Bourne knocks him back with a pair of kicks and jumps to his feet. As Castel lunges forward again, Bourne quickly grabs a weapon from the table behind - a ball-point pen. Castel tries to strike, but Bourne blocks it and stabs the pen into Castel's arm. They break up again.

Castel moves forward with a kick, which Bourne ducks. Bourne quickly counters and blocks Castel's strikes, grabbing his arm and planting the pen into the knuckle, causing Castel to drop the knife. Bourne lays a kick into Castel, causing him to go flying over the table. Castel still won't go down. He rises to his feet, pulls out the pen and rushes forward once again. This time, Bourne is ready. He grabs him, kicks Castel's ankle and breaks Castel's arm around his neck. One solid elbow to the face and Castel is finally down.

Bourne grabs Castel's bag and throws it over to a frightened Marie, who fails to catch it in fear. Marie empties the bag, among the items are painkillers and various prescription drugs.

"Who are you?!" questions Bourne repeatedly, to no answer.

He tries several times and in various languages, banging Castel's head hard against the floor, but soon Marie alerts him to the fact he has pictures of Bourne and her, causing her to freak out. Bourne holds her back, but as he turns around to ask Castel again, Castel throws himself out of the window in rather over-theatrical fashion.

That's the quickest write-up turnaround I've ever seen! Less than 40 minutes!

Nice writeup, cheers!

I quite liked this fight sequence, as it seemed well choreographed and suitably frantic / realistic despite Matt Damon obviously not being a trained martial artist.

Also, I seem to remember that this is the first time we really get an idea of just how skilled and well trained Bourne is when faced with danger?

Mind you, I haven't seen in for many years now, so I'd be interested to see if it's as good as I recall.

Does Bourne smack the guy's head around enough to merit the Torture category do you think?

Well, this is really the third time. We first see it when attacks two policemen in the park and then when he evades the soldiers in the embassy.

I don't think Bourne smacks him around enough to justify Torture.

Isn't it surprising that this death, fairly early on, actually has the most categories for this film? It's quite unusual, seeing as often films build on categories as they go along...

I saw this on TV the other day, and, dang, Castel was really all about not being taken alive, wasn't he? It's amazing he managed to get up and make it as far as the balcony with a broken leg.
