Granger is Dr. Carl Mallinger's creepy butler. He has a scar down one side of his face, and given his obsession with tormenting the entomologist's pet eagle by poking it with a long stick, it's not that difficult to surmise how he got this injury. Proving to be an idiot, Granger grabs that big stick and he goes into the back room where the bird is kept. The bird attacks him as Mallinger watches from the basement.

Later, when Inspector Quennell comes to Clear House looking for Dr. Mallinger (who has skipped town with his daughter), he enters Mallinger's cleaned-out house and sees lab blood dripping from a cabinet. He opens it, and out tumbles Granger, dead.

Although initially we think that the eagle killed Granger, examination by a police doctor at the morgue reveals surgical instruments severed his spine at least three hours after the eagle attack. Smiler, the goofy morgue attendant, suggests maybe Granger "knew too much" and was killed in order to "shut him up," but the details of Granger's demise remain unexplained.
