Having murdered his way through an entire building of vampires, all that remains for Blade to do is square up to Nomak in the film’s final battle.

Blade starts well, leaping towards Nomak and plunging his signature sword through his opponent. Unfortunately, he misses Nomak's heart, which is the only way to destroy this villain, and so the injury only serves to piss off the super-vampire. Nomak breaks the end off the sword before pulling it out, throwing it away and then gets back to fighting Blade.

The two beat each other about with an array of martial arts and wrestling moves, all mixed together with sheer brute force. It is not long though before Nomak proves to be the more resilient, and eventually he gains an advantage over Blade.

Blade ends up badly hurt and unable to stand. Nomak tries to crush him with a large sculpture but Blade rolls aside and sees the remains of his sword. Nomak moves in for the kill, grabbing Blade and dragging him up to bite him and finish the job - but this is a critical mistake. Blade suddenly bursts back into action, grabs Nomak's mouth to prevent being bitten before twisting him sideways and plunging the sword fragment he picked up into Nomak's heart.

Now this is all well and good, but Nomak is practically invulnerable to everything except sunlight and
silver piercing his heart. A Reaper heart, though, is covered with an
armoured carapace that almost totally removes the latter option.

So when Blade stabs Nomak in that last moment, he fails. He only barely
pierces the barrier around Nomak's heart, and doesn't cause any real
damage. In that moment, though, Nomak realises what a monster he truly
is, and decides that non-existence would be preferable to his new
"life". He remarks, killing himself, that "It hurts no more." and then crumbles into dust.

Shouldn't this go under suicide? As I recall, Nomak killed himself.

Also, minor gripe but his first name is Jared/Jarrod/some alternate spelling thereof. I'm just a pusher for listing characters under their full known names.

I agree with you Kooshmeister, i like to use their full names too - he is however listed on IMDB as Nomak, which is where i go for any queries regarding name spellings - it is the closest place on the web we have to a definitive source.

wrt suicide category, i will take your word for it, it is some time since i watched Blade II and cant recall the death that well. I much preferred the first installment to the trilogy; the other two films were much weaker in IMO.

You've done a great write-up man, but just on the suicide point raised, what happens is:

Nomak is practically invulnerable to everything except sunlight and silver piercing his heart. A Reaper heart, though, is covered with an armoured carapace that almost totally removes this option. This was shown earlier in the film when they dissect a Reaper.

So when Blade stabs Nomak in that last moment, he fails. He only barely pierces the barrier around Nomak's heart, and doesn't cause any real damage. In that moment, though, Nomak realises what a monster he truly is, and decides that non-existence would be preferable to his new "life". He remarks, killing himself, that "it hurts no more."

Thanks for that James, I've added your explanation to the main review.
