Kazuo Kiriyama was probably Battle Royale’s answer to the Terminator (q.v.), killing 11 of the students on the island without a word (although on one occasion he does manage to raise a smile!). In a word: he is a badass, and being such, you would expect him to get a badass death, right? Not really. After Shinji Mimura sets off a bomb, killing himself in an attempt to take Boy #6 (the number assigned to Kiriyama in the game) down, Kazuo is blinded and the entire area is set on fire.

Shogo Kawada, Shuya Nanahara and Noriko Nakagawa arrive only to see the only other remaining contestant walk out of the fire in a way that just screams "Sephiroth wannabe.” Kawada and co. simply look on at the blind psycho, before Boy #5 (Kawada) holds out his arm and tells the others to "wait here", or words to that effect. He then walks behind Kiriyama, and after a dramatic pause, cocks his shotgun menacingly, instead of shooting the bastard in the back. Kiriyama hears this and turns around, shooting Kawada several times with a spray of Uzi bullets before he finally gets hit with a shotgun blast.

They continue firing at each other for a few more seconds (with Kawada dodging some bullets with the Battle Royale equivalent of break dance moves) before Shogo blows out Kazuo’s leg. After a shot of Kazuo pulling what can only be described as Anakin Skywalker giving the Kubrick stare, Kawada shoots Kazuo’s collar and his head explodes in a mist of blood.
