Nobody traumatises young children like Disney, and so when cute little Bambi and his mum pop out for a stroll in the woods in the middle of deer hunting season, you just know it is all going to end in tears.
True enough, after a few moments foraging in the snow for food, Bambi's mum senses the scent of man, and orders Bambi to run.
"Faster! Faster, Bambi! Don't look back! Keep running! Keep running!"
As they flee for their lives, shots ring out, but the audience is left in the dark as to what has happened, as the camera keeps focus on Bambi, who is running his little hooves off.
When he pauses for breath we realise that Bambi's mother is nowhere to be seen. He calls out for his mum, but it is to no avail, as we all know her deer rack is soon to be adorning some hillbilly's living room.
This revelation is delivered to Bambi via the sudden appearance of a large male deer (the Great Prince), who turns out to be Bambi's father, when he informs the precocious little fawn that "Your mother can't be with you any more".
A single tear rolls down the face of the impossibly forlorn young Bambi, and across the world millions of kiddie-winks feel the abject anguish of death for the first time - which should keep the little sods quiet in the car on the way home!
