After a number of days of waiting, the alien face-hugger has finally detached itself from Kane's face after it jumped out at him days earlier. Kane recovers and appears fine, as though nothing has happened. To celebrate, the rest of the crew gathers for dinner. During a very hearty conversation however, Kane starts to feel something is wrong. Something inside of him!
Unbeknownst to the crew, the facehugging alien has laid an egg in Kane's chest and it is now ready to hatch. Kane starts screaming and thrashing and the crew manage to flip Kane up onto the table, trying desperately (and futilely) to figure out what is wrong.
They can only panic as a huge bulge appears in Kane's torso, and becomes bigger with each push. After one final sickening push, the baby alien bursts out of Kane's stomach like a gruesome jack-in-the-box, with Kane’s blood squirting everywhere. As the crew watches in utter shock, the alien looks at them, and runs off. One crewman down, several more to go.
Surely this will jump to no. 1 soon enough. The best movie death of all time!
not the most honest rendition of the alien bursting out of kanes chest. I have been watching this movie for like the last two weeks over and over again on skybroadband - there are no bumps in his chest during the breakout, just he is writhing around a bit and then theres this nice splash of blood on his shirt then a little more writhing around until the breakthough where a whole bunch of blood spills all over the place. Hmmm, a bit anal I know, but get it right kids.
The cool part about this scene is that the other actors were unaware of exactly how is was oing to be played out. So the reactions are real, this was planned by the director.
How about sex? not SEX sex, but the face-hugger did get Kane pregnant after all.
I actually wrote a paper about this at college. Maybe I still have it...
feel free to post it if you fancy Dr Death, we are always interested in peoples take on death scenes.
This death was so bad ass that it was duplicated, almost completely, in Spaceballs. They even got John Hurt to play Kane again. Best death in a horror/drama AND a comedy.
So it's NOT unique.
Well, does direct parody count to cancel out unique?
Not to mention it's a fairly common death to have things pop out of you in the Alien series. (in the 4th one, they tried a little variation by having a headbuster go through into the head of a second poor sap and out the other end).
I believe this type of death is unique to the Alien series, the closest other movies got without being a ripoff was Xtro.
Sigh...
This is around the time when Karl would pop up and ask "what if Kane had lived?"
One of the very best movie deaths of all time! What those xenomorphs do is just pure evil!
