Following a failed coup attempt by Dim and Georgie to change the leadership of the gang from Alex, Alex delivers a suitable beating/drowning punishment to the pair of them. However, like all good generals, Alex knows that troop morale is important, and he agrees to go with Pete's plan to rob a secluded "health farm" in a rich part of town.
Alex attempts to con his way into the house by pretending that one of his friends has been in an accident, and he needs to phone an ambulance. However, similar incidents have left this lady very wary, and so she refuses to let him in, and instead she calls the police.
Alex is not easily discouraged though, and he gets into the property by sneaking in through a second storey window. He runs into the Catlady - a middle-aged woman who is still spry and in good health. The Catlady does a sterling job of defending herself, and threatens the intruder with a silver bust of Beethoven.
In response Alex picks up an modern art sculpture, which resembles a phallus, buttocks and pair of breasts. After a brief scuffle, he knocks the Catlady over with the artwork and drops it on her head, mortally wounding her.
Not quite dead?
Cheating death?
Not sure what you mean??
she is definitely dead, we are told so when Alex is being interviewed a bit later.

Sorry about that, despite being an avid Kubrick fan I haven't had the pleasure of seeing this movie yet, "mortally wounded" threw me off
It's a fine film - but not a patch on the book.

Why this charcter is ambivalent? I think that catlady is just an innocent buystander witch Alex kills for her bad fortune. She hasen,t done anything bad, has she?
I second the last post.
