Dino Velvet is a shady movie director whose violent and often pornographic films star a masked man nicknamed Machine. He is the one who filmed the death of Mary Ann Mathews, paid to do so by Mr. Christian's lawyer Daniel Longdale (q.v.). Private investigator Tom Welles has dug too deep for Velvet's tastes, and so the killers have captured him.
Hoping to buy himself enough time to escape, Tom blurts out that Longdale was withholding money from Velvet and his cronies: Mr. Christian apparently paid the lawyer more money to deliver the snuff film than Longdale paid Velvet to make it.
Feeling understandably cheated, Velvet, Machine, and their friend, Eddie Poole, all forget about Tom for the moment and close in on Longdale, who has armed himself with a small automatic pistol. Velvet, meanwhile, wields a crossbow, and while pretending to comply with Longdale's demands that he drop the weapon, Velvet instead fires on the lawyer. As he is struck with the arrow, however, Longdale reflexively fires his gun and the bullet hits Velvet in the neck.
Velvet collapses and is caught in the arms of Machine, his loyal subordinate. As Machine and Eddie Poole watch helplessly, their boss bleeds to death. Oddly, Velvet is not upset at the concept of his own death. Rather, he would have preferred something a little more befitting his tumultuous lifestyle. "I was supposed to have something more cinematic," he manages to gasp before finally expiring.
Would "Betrayel" count here?
Because Velvet was cheated by Longdale and then threatened with gun.
Velvet was killed by Longdale as a reflex action after he'd already shot Longdale with the crossbow, and even before this it was obvious all Longdale wanted to do was escape; Longdale didn't conciously kill him as a deliberate act of betrayal.
As for Longdale cheating them, it should be added in this writeup (and the one for Longdale) that there's some question as to whether or not what Tom said was true. I know Longdale said he was "well compensated" by Mr. Christian for hiring Velvet but I don't remember him ever saying he either cheated his cohorts, or gave an exact figure of money to Tom, so now that I think about it, it could be argued Tom was just making it up to make the bad guys turn on Longdale so he could escape.
