Written by ImadjinnThis is the only movie death that has ever made me worry for humanity.
28 Weeks Later is the sequel to 28 Days Later and, similarly to its predecessor, focuses on the struggles of ordinary men, women and children against the mysterious Rage Virus, which, as the name might suggest, drives its victims to random acts of bloody violence.
Case in point. Donald Harris is cooped up in a country house along with his wife and other survivors. Hundreds, if not thousands, of "Infected" roam the land and it does not look like help is coming. One day, a child comes running, banging and screaming to be let in. Don decides to let him in, albeit cautiously, which may or may not sign his and the others death warrants.
Sure enough, the child has drawn the attention of an army of Infected, with nought but violence on their warped minds. The survivors are systematically bitten, beaten and bloodied until they too become one of them.
Don manages to fight them off briefly, while his wife and the child have ran upstairs. They meet in the same room, but are then seperated by the Infected. Despite his wife's pleas for help, scared Don does a runner, abandoning her to a grisly fate.
But, unfortunaetly for poor Alice Harris, her suffering is not over by a long shot.
Cut to some time in the future. The Infected are apparently all cleared up, thanks to the Americans, naturally, and people are being allowed back into Blighty (that's Britain for you, well, non-Brits). Don is a big cheese in the new, safe (hah!) city and is happy to find that his two children have come in from Spain, hiding from the virus.
Wanting to visit their old home, the kiddies go outside the safety of the city and make a shocking discovery: Their dear Mum is alive, but far from well, hiding away in the old home.
The military bring her back for tests and find that she carries the virus, but is unaffected by it. They strap her down, for safety purposes, and, well, leave her. Hm.
Don finds out his missus still lives and goes for a visit. He breaks down in front of her, apologising for leaving her to get pummeled by the Infected. Then, he makes the horrid mistake of giving her a wet smooch.
Did I mention that the virus passes on through bodily fluid?
Don immediately feels the effects of the Rage Virus. Flailing wildly, he starts punching the reinforced window, spews blood and, finally, his pupils turn a devilish shade of red.
A moment of calm follows and then, it happens...
Don turns on his poor, poor wife and begins to punch her repeatedly in the side of the head. Blood pours from her mouth as she calls his name before he sinks his teeth into her throat.
I honestly wished it ended there, but instead, he wraps his hands around her head, puts his thumbs against her eyes and pushes as hard as he can.
The ordeal is finally over, but the damage, not only to Alice but to myself, is well and truly done.
A few more wild blows from Don to his deceased wife's cranium and he's off to spread the Rage.
Well, hope you enjoyed reading it! I know I hated watching it.
