Movie Deaths Database, the best and worst Hollywood Homicides *:-)

Welcome to the MDDB, a tongue-in-cheek movie reviews site dedicated to documenting deathscenes in films.

We love films, we enjoy critiquing the cinematography, the musical score, the script, plot and more.

But there are thousands of sites that do that.

So, we decided to concentrate on a key component of most dramatic works, the Death-Scene.

This is a powerful tool in the script-writer and director's utility belt, and we'd like to think they agonise over the best way to dispatch a character who may often have been built up over a period of several hours.

Sadly though, over the years we've come to realise that the Death-Scene leaves most directors reaching for their generic Plot-by-Numbers book as the same tired clichés are used over and over again.

This site then, aims to show up the worst offenders and also to recognise those scenes where the creative team went to that little bit of extra effort to make the scene stand out in our memory.

Why is everyone saying that Eomer shows up leading [i]elves[i]? He was leading 2,000 Rohirrim, not elves. Has anybody oaid attention to the movie? It is mentioned that Eomer is leading 2,000 loyal men, and when they show up, they are all wearing Viking hlmets(real ones, not horned ones). Honestly.

Does one of those sword fights include Black Knight vs. Green Knight/King Arthur? And do any of them involve Samurai?

Thanks, old bluffer. Also, just to clarify for others, when I called it a "great sword", I was giving the proper name for this class of sword. For example, in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Black and Green Knights were both using greatswords, a massive weapon that could shear through the hardest chain mail like hot butter, but was rarely used outside of personal duels(though when it was deployed on the battlefield, it gave a master of it a psychological and physical advantage, as it was nearly unbreakable and could shatter smaller blades).

That makes sense, but as the son of the don, he should have known better. I mean, he wasn't stupid, but if you can't control your temper(especially when there's a lot of people out to kill you), you can become stupid.

That is actually a good point... I never thought of that before. Maybe it had to do with hitting the heart, maybe? I mean, Arnie impaled himself through the heart, so maybe he's like a vampire in some ways; although, if I was the director, I would've had possessed Arnie come back just when you thought he was finished.

I think Ambivalent (Major) only goes for the main character or main villain who goes too far into the grey area to be considered a protagonist/villain. Sonny doesn't really qualify since the story didn't really revolve around him. The only people in the film I can see being Ambivalent (Major) are Michael Corleone (who doesn't die) and his father Vito (who does).

I think this ought to qualify as "Not Quite Dead..." since he plummets to his death due to the icing problem before attacking Stark again. I thought he was dead at that point.

Also I think it was Pepper who killed Stane, not Stark. Pepper was the one who activated the nuclear reactor which killed Stane.

Give me a specific scenario of how to show that on the movie screen. Movies are not a good medium for giving a direct insight into a character's mind. You have to demonstrate it graphically.
